Thursday, September 6 was the opening reception for my first solo art exhibition, "This is America," inspired by Donald Glover's thought-provoking music video. The work was displayed in Xavier University's art village Building 39 art gallery. The exhibit lasted from Tuesday, September 4- Sunday, October 7.

My concept "NOLA Tricentennial Band" was selected for LUNA Fete 2017 hosted by the Arts Council New Orleans. As the kickoff for the NOLA tricentennial, I decided to create a light sculpture that represented New Orleans culture. I decided to create a sculpture of instruments used in a traditional second line (trumpet, trombone, sousaphone, saxophone, bass drum, and snare drum). The piece was also interactive allowing viewers to create their own music via the music stand.

Four pieces from my Social Injustice Series were exhibited in the 5 Press Gallery "Continued Dreamers" exhibition. The gallery showing featured work from recent NOCCA, New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, alum and was on display from July 13- August 27 with the opening reception on August 11.

I won the gold medal for the drawing category and bronze medal in painting in a the state-wide competition for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People's Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics, a competition in which talented students in different fields compete first in state and then nationally if they win a gold medal. I, along with three other gold medal winners, will have the opportunity to compete nationally in Baltimore, MD.

Also, my pieces "Achieving Dreams by Any Means" and "Pan-African Power" will be featured in their Teen Zine magazine which will be released on their teen website and distributed at the opening reception for the teen exhibition! I received the privilege to participate in NOLA.com's (The Time Picayune's) Southern Girls Project, a project created to highlight females in the south. I was allowed an instagram takeover for the day! I covered St. Mary's Academy's Mother Daughter Tea which was a day in which the seniors and their mothers went to tea at the Windsor Court! My first solo art exhibition was held at St. Mary's Academy for the school's 2017 Black History Program. I was invited to showcase my Social Injustice Series. The show was viewed by the entire school and was open to the public. I was granted this opportunity thanks to Ms. Lisa Ross, the Public Relations and Events Director.

My fellow NOCCA Visual Arts classmates and I who won an award in the National Scholastic Art and Writing Contest, a very competitive and acclaimed national competition, were featured on the school's website. I won an Honorable Mention Award in portfolio for my Social Injustice series.

It was great to have been able to work with and under acclaimed artist Brandan Odums in his 2-Cent summer internship and his studio "Studio BE" with the other interns to create a beautiful mural for the Algiers community!

My Level II NOCCA classmates and I were interviewed by The Times Picayune newspaper about our little free library sculptures. These public art pieces are distributed throughout New Orleans encouraging literacy and reading in the city. My piece was put on the cover of the article on the site and in the paper.
